George Tooman follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, also a teacher, on a journey that takes him the length of New Zealand from snowy Otago to sub-tropical Northland.
He teaches in tiny country schools, where the children arrive on horseback, and decades later is principal of a school where teachers are pioneering the use of computers in the classroom.
Along the way, George meets his beloved wife, Eileen, and they raise four children, who must learn to adapt to moving house every few years as their father advances his career in education.
It’s a story told with honest, humility and warmth.
